A BUYERS GUIDE FOR DIAMONDS
Be Educated And Informed
A beautiful diamond breathes fresh air and exhales fire. It’s hardness
and polish remain unsurpassed. A diamond is widely recognized as
the expression of love. As an ethical American Gem Society and 4th
generation jeweler, Parian & Sons will recommend the right cut
and shape for any diamond setting. Examples of popular cuts are
pictured on this page. You will love our selection of engagement
rings and cocktail rings; anniversary bands; diamond pendants, pins,
earrings and more.
Let us show you how small diamonds can be used to enhance colored
stone jewelry and watches too. Bring us your repairs, remounts,
restorations and new designs knowing that all work is done on premises.
Understanding diamond characteristics will give you confidence
that you will value for a lifetime. Buying with “Parian-Plus”
value-added advantages will give you the reassurance you deserve.
What You Should Know
Cost and true value are determined by these four characteristics: cut,
color, clarity and weight. In its natural state, a diamond’s
beauty is concealed until the cut unlocks the brilliance and fire
enabling the diamond to shine. Attaining optimum optical properties
— a diamond’s ability to refract light and disperse color — requires
precisely calculated planes and angles.
An “ideal cut” is a term reserved
for a diamond that has been cut by a skilled cutter who adheres
to exacting tolerances to achieve maximum brilliance (See diagrams).
In fact, much of the rough diamond has to be cut away. Although
we specialize in “ideal diamonds”, Parian & Sons has a wide
selection of cuts and grades for virtually any application.
When viewing an “ideal diamond” under a special jewelers microscope,
perfect patterns of “hearts and arrows” can
be seen — arrows from a top view and hearts from a bottom view (See
illustration). It is this detail that gives the “ideal diamond”
its unmatched beauty and unchallenged value.
